One of the most delighted duties as urologist is to share with excellent international specialists to update and transfer knowledge to bring health to hundreds of people, and create new procedures to help heal patients around the world.
Recently, I visited the urologic team of the Clinic Saint-Augustin in Bordeaux, France. It is a very famous medical center in France, in Europe and everywhere in the world, due to its great experience in minimally invasive, laparoscopic and robotic surgery.
In the Clinic Saint – Augustin, I talked with Dr. Richard Pierre Gaston, who is famous for the introduction in Europe of laparoscopic surgery and for being the first one who developed this technique in the area of prostate cancer.
His experience in terms of prostate surgery has allowed him to start up the technique he developed with the use of the DA VINCI robot since 2001.
Moreover, Dr. Gaston performs live surgeries and regularly welcomes a large number of surgeons from all over the world who want to learn the techniques developed in the clinic Saint Augustin.
I had the opportunity to share with Dr. Thierry Piechaud as well. He’s the responsible for the club of robotics of the French Association of Urology. During my stay in Saint Augustin, Dr. Piechaud performances a robotic partial nephrectomy. It was a great time for updating laparoscopic and robotic surgery techniques.
To finish, I just want to add the advantages of the least invasive surgical treatment can be: less pain, less blood losses, a little scar, a faster recovery, and, in many cases, better clinical results.
