Dr. René Sotelo: an authority in Urology

Physician, general surgeon and urologist: Founder and director of the Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery (CIMI) in Caracas, Venezuela; Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Mexico and Bolivia. Dr. René Sotelo has been one of  the last recruit from the University of Southern California, and moved to Los Angeles , as professor of urology at the Institute of Urology at USC. He had a preceptorship in the Department of Urology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, a fellowship in Urologic Oncology at the Father Machado Hospital in Caracas, Venezuela, with training in General Surgery and Urology Surgical Oncology at the National Cancer Center in Tokyo, Japan.
He is director of the Cancer Society of Venezuela and President of the Foundation for Urologic Cancers (CAURO) and current coordinator of Laparoscopy and Robotics of the American Federation of Urology, (CAU).Currently, Dr. René Sotelo works as a physician and professor at Keck Medicine School of University of Southern California (USC), in Los Angeles

Vision: Future Medicine

He has expertise in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery; has developed and described different surgical techniques in laparoscopic surgery, including correction of vesico-vaginal fistula, recto-urethral fistula, prostate laparoscopic adenomectomy and additionally has described these techniques when robot assisted.
He has been invited to give lectures at the graduate and subspecialty levels, in addition to performing surgery in hospitals and universities in the public and private sectors in over 24 countries, including Germany, Italy, Costa Rica, Turkey, Egypt, Switzerland, Brazil, Colombia ,Curaçao, Kuwait, Mexico, Ecuador, Korea, India, Qatar, Nicaragua and the United States, among others.

Winner of prestigious awards for the best surgical videos in the most important urological societies: American Urological Association (AUA), European Association of Urology (EAU), European Robotic Urology Symposium (ERUS), International Society of Urology (SIU), American Confederation of Urology (CAU), Society of Robotic Surgery (SRS). He has chaired several symposia on global issues related to androgen deprivation therapy in prostate cancer and robotic laparoscopic procedures, including laparoscopic complications, a session at the last World Congress of Endourology.
For the last 3 years he has served as a director of one of the graduate courses during the annual meeting of the American Urological Association and at the last congress was honored to participate as a speaker at the plenary of this prestigious institution focusing on endourology and laparoscopy issues. He is a contributor, as a participant, co-editor, reviewer and / or author, in journals such as The Journal of Endourology, World Journal of Urology, Current Opinion in Urology, Brazilian Journal of Urology, British Journal of Urology, International Journal of Urology, The Journal of Urology, Urologic Spanish Proceedings, Journal of the Colombian Society of Urology. His special area of interest is cancer surgery.
